We went to Ipanema Beach for a Saturday, May 17. Of course we had to wear our new glasses! How do we look? Like Brazilians or American trying to blend in? It was an overcast day but it was still lots of fun to be out by the ocean.

These green coconuts are sold everywhere!!! Brazilians live off of this stuff. I think it is pretty good. It isn't too sweet but it is just enough flavor to make a nice refreshing drink. And the guys who sell this chop off the bottom so it sits and not rolls, then chops the top off - all with a huge knife in only a couple of sweeps! Yikes! it was awesome though.
Oh, do you like the swimming suits behind me? That is completely normal. it is quite funny when the old men have a basketball-size tummy while wearing these little things. AND the old men who play volleyball here are still so LIMBER. They are still so agile and active that it is awesome!

Joseph loves the beach, even though his face doesn't show it right now. He even wanted to take a nap on the beach. We only had one towel, but we did it. I got half and he got half. It was quite the site, I am sure. I was nervous to sleep because of someone coming up and stealing our bookbag. So I had my legs over it the whole time. Oh brother. It was still fun, especially to see Joseph make a pillow out of sand.

After a nap we decided to check out the shopping. It is really quite expensive so we didn't get anything except for a perfume for me. Joseph insisted because I have never had perfume in my whole life. So I bought one that the lady said was great. But I bought it and doing it just to make Joseph happy and so he won't pester me about not having "necessities" that women need. Oh, I have a good one! BUT I didn't buy perfume from this cute guy. We found him and I was so excited because he sold Chili Powder! The last ingredient I needed for Mexican Food! It was wonderful. He tried to sell us lots of other stuff too and we bought one of them. I still don't know what it is and Joseph can't read the label. So we have mystery spice! :)
